Chennai:
Rain and an overcast sky on Tuesday took the temperatures down and brought much-needed respite from the harsh Sept heat. The maximum temperature on Tuesday dropped to 34.9C in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam from 36C-37C on Monday.
This is at least 1.4C below the normal temperature, a report by Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai said.
For 24 hours until 8.30am on Tuesday, weathermen recorded 46.4mm of rainfall in Nungambakkam and 32mm in Meenambakkam.
The rainfall, however, wasn't uniform. The rain gauge recorded 15cm of rain in the Manali area, 9cm in Avadi, 8cm in Maduravoyal, 7cm in Valasaravakkam, 4cm in Royapuram, Anna Nagar and Adyar areas, and 3cm in Nandanam and Aynavaram. It continued to rain in some parts on Tuesday. Between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Tuesday, the Meenambakkam area reported 12.4cm of rain, while Nungambakkam reported 4.4cm. Humidity in Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam was 86% and 97%.
Parts of T Nagar, Saidapet, Adyar, Poonamallee High Road and Anna Nagar experienced traffic jams when it rained during the peak hours in the evening. There were no reports of major waterlogging or flooding though

IMD) has forecast partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by light or moderate rain in some areas.
