Coimbatore: A wildlife photographer was killed after he was thrown off an open jeep, which was being driven by his friend in a rash and negligent manner, at Sethumadai here on Saturday night.
An investigation officer said the incident took place when Rohit Kalingarayar, 41, of Thottathu Veedu at Vettaikaranpudur near Pollachi, and his friends were returning to their houses from Sethumadai after dinner around 11.30pm on Saturday.
Pradeep, of Kambalapatti village near Pollachi, was at the wheel of the vehicle.
"Pradeep was driving the jeep in a rash and negligent manner. When the jeep hit a speed breaker, Rohit, who was sitting on a rear seat, was thrown off the vehicle. He was rushed to the govt hospital at Vettaikaranpudur with severe head injuries. After first aid, Rohit was taken to a private hospital in Pollachi, where doctors declared him brought dead around 12.15am on Sunday," the officer said.
Rohit was a photographer with Pollachi Papyrus. He also freelanced occasionally and was an agriculturist as well.
Rohit's relative, R Sriharirathnam, 57, of Sethumadai, lodged a complaint with the Anaimalai police, who registered a case against Pradeep under sections 106 (i) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
