New Delhi: North Delhi cops recently apprehended two persons and thwarted a double murder plot. The suspects, Sunny Austin (25) and a juvenile, had been stalking their two targets and waiting for an opportune moment to kill them.
Police said that they received a tip on Sept 21 that two individuals on a scooter were carrying illegal firearms and planning to commit double murder in the Daya Basti railway quarters.
Subsequently, a trap was laid in the area. On seeing them, the suspects tried to flee the spot, but after a short chase, they were apprehended. A homemade pistol was seized from their possession.
DCP (North) Manoj Meena said that during their interrogation, authorities discovered that the two persons were planning the murder for revenge. "The duo revealed that they harboured animosity towards two individuals named Parveen and Satte, who resided in Daya Basti. In June, Parveen and Satte had allegedly assaulted and humiliated the juvenile, a 17-year-old boy, publicly in Inderlok. This incident served as a catalyst for the accused's vengeful plot," the officer added.
To carry out their plan, the duo had stolen a scooter from Sultanpuri in July. They later acquired a homemade pistol and three cartridges from a Meerut-based seller. "On Saturday, the duo were going to shoot Parveen and Satte, but before that, they were nabbed," the DCP added.
Cops are investigating whether Austin was involved in any criminal activities in the past as well. Meena further said that the timely intervention by cops prevented the murders, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing in combating crime.
