Man loses 1L to OTP fraud
New Delhi: A south Delhi resident fell victim to a scam when fraudsters posing as bank officials tricked him into revealing a one-time password received on his phone. The caller told him that he needed verification to close his credit card.
The complainant, a resident of Neb Sarai Extension, informed police that he received a phone call from someone claiming to be a bank official.
"The caller told me that an OTP would be generated on my registered mobile number and asked me to share it with him. After I shared the OTP, the caller informed me that my credit card would be closed permanently," the complainant said.
Later, he received a call from the bank's customer care informing him of purchases made with his credit card and offering to convert them to EMI options. He informed them that he had never used the card for any transactions. The man was duped of more than Rs 1 lakh.
