Panaji: The director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Goa, Omprakash Jaiswal, said that NIT Goa has achieved 83% overall placement with BTech students getting, on average, offers of Rs 8 lakh per annum. He said the highest package on the table was Rs 20 lakh per annum.
He was speaking at the institute’s convocation ceremony on Sunday. “I am very happy to say that more than 120 companies visited NIT Goa for campus placements for BTech and MTech students of 2023-24,” Jaiswal said.
“More than 40 companies extended offers to NIT Goa students. Despite the global slowdown and recession in the job market across the world, our students have performed well.”
Jaiswal said a significant highlight of this placement season was the selection of a few students by public sector undertakings (PSUs), such as MECON and BSES.
“Some of our students are also working in prominent PSUs like BEL and BPCL, to name a few. Nearly 100% of MTech students got internship positions in leading multinational corporations such as AMD, Global Foundries, Intel, Qualcomm, Smart SOC, Dell, and Bosch,” Jaiswal said.
“Twelve of 17 MTech VLSI students got placement offers from companies such as Intel, Marvell, Synopsys, and Cadence. The highest package of Rs 35 lakh per annum was offered by Marvell Technology while the average package was Rs 20 lakh per annum.”
From computer science and engineering streams, three out of seven MTech students secured employment during internships with companies such as Dell, Infineon, and Thinkseed Systems, with the highest package of Rs 19 lakh per annum and an average package of Rs 14 lakh per annum, Jaiswal said. He said NIT Goa has also received 54 research and consultancy projects worth approximately Rs 35.5 crore from various research funding bodies such as the Centre’s department of science & technology; Engineering Research Board, India; and the Union ministry of new & renewable energy.
