Panaji:Govt has identified 126 out-of-school children and is looking to get them into the state’s mainstream education system during the current academic year.
It has assessed that 97 of these children require special training for 12 months to help them integrate with the schooling system.
Goa has been sanctioned Rs 6,000 per child under Centre’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan to impart the required training during the academic year.
During the annual review of the implementation of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in Goa, central officials told the state to also offer support through the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) for out-of-school children who are in the 16-19 year age group.
“Special centres have been provided by NIOS across the country for students in govt schools and the registration fee in these special centres has been subsidised at Rs 2,000 per student. This is a special provision made by NIOS for out-of-school children. Examination fees are also exempted for first-timers. Many states are undertaking enrolment drives to identify out-of-school children and bring them into the mainstream,” Goa has been told.
Additionally, central officials have said that under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the emphasis should be on ensuring three years of pre-schooling for every child before entry into Class 1.
“For this, teaching-learning material for preschools like ‘Jadui Pitara’ and its e-version and textbooks for Classes I and II should immediately be put to use, specially in local languages. Emphasis should also be on implementation of ‘Vidya Pravesh’, a three-month school preparation module, so that every child in India necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Class 2, by 2026,” Goa has been told.
