2 held in Dhing gang rape case

Guwahati: Two persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old girl at Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district on Wednesday evening. The duo was absconding since then.
Nagaon additional SP Pranab Kalita told TOI that the medical examination of the victim has confirmed that the girl was raped.
On Wednesday, the family of the girl had lodged an FIR and named the two men for allegedly raping their daughter when she and her brother were returning after dropping their grandmother at a place.The motorcycle-borne duo forcibly took the girl to a secluded place and gang-raped her. Locals, who became aware of the incident after hearing her brother’s cries for help, rescued the girl and took her to a nearby hospital for medical examination.
The Nagaon additional SP said, “Based on the complaint from the victim’s family, police launched an operation to nab the rapists and arrested them early on Saturday. Both of them were produced before a court on Saturday and are currently in police custody. The minor girl is now out of danger.”

However, the police refrained from revealing the identity of the accused, saying “the accused and the victim are neighbours”.
Earlier on Aug 22, another 14-year-old girl was gang-raped and dumped on the roadside by three men at Dhing when she was returning home from tuition classes.
