Guwahati:
Assam has rolled out the implementation of APAAR ID, a 12-digit lifelong digital identity for school-enrolled students who possess a valid Aadhar ID. Directed by the state education department under the New Education Policy 2020, this initiative aims to streamline academic records, track student progress, and support students’ educational journeys.
APAAR ID stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, which is part of the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ program aligning with the New Education Policy 2020. This initiative is driven by the department of school education & literacy under the ministry of education.
“Assam is rolling out the APAAR ID, a 12-digit lifelong digital identity for school-enrolled students. This initiative under the New Education Policy 2020 will streamline academic records, track student progress, and support students in their educational journey. Parents, join the Parent-Teacher Meetings to give consent for your child’s APAAR ID!,” state education minister Ranoj Pegu said on X, on Saturday.
“APAAR ID of students will be the permanent digital identity for the student which will be linked to Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) & DigiLocker to digitally store all academic records including marksheets, certificates, etc. It will help for unified tracking of academic progress of students, reducing drop out and tracking of Out of School Children,” stated a latest letter from mission director of Samagra Siksha, Assam, Om Prakash to district authorities and senior education department officials concerned.
There are stringent guidelines stating that APAAR ID should not be generated without the written consent of parents or guardians. The consent letter format is available in Assamese, Bodo, and Bengali.
The inspector of schools and the district elementary education officer will serve as district nodal officers for secondary and elementary schools, respectively. These officers are tasked with preparing schedules for parent-teacher meetings and training head teachers or nodal teachers on the generation of APAAR IDs for students.
This initiative marks a significant step towards centralised and streamlined academic tracking and support for students, aiming to reduce dropout rates and ensure proper documentation of student progress throughout their academic journey.
