Guwahati: Assam govt has told the Gauhati high court that the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in Aug engaged a consultancy agency, Haskoning DHV Consulting Pvt. Ltd, for preparation of GIS-based Comprehensive Drainage Master Plan and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Guwahati city to resolve the flooding issue, reports Mukut Das.
The court of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice N Unni Krishnan Nair, while hearing the petition filed by North East Eco Development Society earlier this year over the flooding issue in Guwahati, expressed hope that effective measures will be taken at the earliest to tackle the flooding issue.
“We are of the view that the state govt is serious in tackling the problem of water logging and flooding in Guwahati city,” the court stated. Advocate General D Saikia submitted before the court that the state is ready to take the services of retired IFS officer Akash Deep Baruah, who has proposed some solutions for tackling the flooding in the city, and assured the court that he will facilitate that the suggestions of Baruah be taken into consideration at appropriate level by considering inputs suggested by him.
