Assam is witnessing a surge in interest in rooftop solar systems, with over two lakh applications submitted under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. This surge is driven by significant govt subsidies, making solar adoption more affordable. Solar energy is seen as crucial for reducing electricity bills and addressing climate change.
Binoyjyoti Nath, AGM of APDCL, highlighted the growing customer interest, “We are witnessing tremendous customer interest in rooftop solar systems, with applications exceeding 200,000, driven largely by the substantial government subsidies that make solar adoption highly affordable for households.”
A key stakeholder meeting was also held on Friday to promote rooftop solar energy adoption under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
The event, titled “ONergizing Surya Ghar: Empowering Homes with Rooftop Solar”, brought together dealers, APDCL officials, banking representatives, and partners.
The aim of the meeting was to encourage the adoption of solar energy in Assam, emphasizing the substantial subsidies provided by both central and state govts.
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, homeowners can receive up to a 70% subsidy on the cost of grid-connected solar rooftop systems.
