Kalaburagi: Kalaburagi Central Jail, in collaboration with
Adani Group's Saksham Skill Training Centre and Socare Ind Centre of Sringeri Sharada Peetha, are providing free computer training to the inmates of Kalaburagi Central Prison.
Around 30 inmates in the first batch have completed the training course, and another 30 inmates are currently undergoing training.
This initiative aims to equip inmates with valuable skills that can aid in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society upon their release.
"Reforming prisoners is our duty, and it is suggested that the inmates trained by rehabilitation institutions can join work after their release. They can remove the negative tag from their name after they go outside, start working, and lead a respectful life," said the Kalaburagi Central Prison superintendent B Suresh.
He also mentioned that women inmates are yet to come forward to take the computer training, but they are seeking sewing training, which will be provided to them by the rehabilitation institutions.
Training teacher Hareesh Dattatreya Gouli said, "It is my first time training inmates in prison. In the first batch, 30 inmates were trained, and the second batch is currently getting the training. All inmates are not bad persons; all of them have been showcasing good behaviour. Initially, I was worried about spending time with inmates, but later all of us became friendly and got through the computer course."
Continuing, he said, "Right now, there are eight computer systems. If more inmates show interest, then more computer systems can be brought."
Shrishail Nagappa, an inmate, said: "We committed mistakes in our lives which will not be repeated. I will take advantage of this computer training once I am released, which is very soon."
