KMC RI staff quarters crying for attention
Hubballi: The Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC RI), a vital healthcare provider in North Karnataka, has failed to prioritise the well-being of its hard-working staff who dedicate themselves to upholding the hospital's high standards and providing quality healthcare to the community.
The staff quarters, situated at Block no. 7 on KMC RI premises, have been neglected for years, with the structures suffering from leaks during the rainy season and trees growing on the sides of the walls.
The deteriorating state of the quarters has been a significant concern for the staff, who have been living in these subpar conditions while serving the community.

The building, which contains 24 units, has been in dire need of attention and maintenance, but the authorities have neglected to address the issue, forcing the staff to bear the consequences of their negligence. By failing to prioritise the improvement of staff quarters, the KMC RI hospital risks undermining the morale and motivation of its employees. A comprehensive approach to upgrading the hospital's infrastructure should include not only the medical facilities but also the living conditions of its valuable staff members.
When contacted, residents of the quarters, who did not wish to be named, revealed that they have been facing numerous problems and have brought these issues to the attention of the authorities concerned, but no action has been taken yet. "The building was built in the year 1960. For the past 15 to 20 years, the authorities have not even painted or conducted any kind of repair works."
The residents also mentioned that a thick jungle has grown in front of the quarters, and several buildings experience leakage during the rain. They added, "There is a mosquito menace. People here are living under the fear of mosquito-borne diseases." Recently, a snake was found on the premises of the quarters, causing children to feel unsafe to play outside after school.
When contacted, KMC RI director SF Kammar stated: "We will issue directions to the estate officials of KMC RI to relocate the residents at the Block No. 7 staff quarters and vacate. The required process will be initiated to construct new quarters for the staff." He mentioned that a proposal for the demolition of the dilapidated building had already been sent, pending approval.
