Hyderabad: A 55-year-old woman, Boddula Sharada, was brutally murdered by an unidentified person at her rented accommodation at Mallampet on the outskirts of the city late on Monday. The suspects also robbed gold jewellery from the woman, police said. While the woman was strangled to death, police suspect a known person's role in the
murder.
According to police, Sharada, and her son Sai Vinay, hailing from Adilabad district, moved to the city a month ago and were residing in an apartment at Mallampet under the Dundigal police station.
She ran a small store selling milk and curd near their apartment, while he was working for a private construction firm.
On Monday morning, Vinay dropped her at the store and left for work. Around 8.30 pm, before coming home, he called her on the phone to pick her up as usual. When there was no response even after calling repeatedly, he called a neighbour to check on her.
The neighbour checked on Sharada in the flat and found her lying in an unconscious state and informed her son. He rushed home and alerted police. Enquiries revealed that around 10 am, she closed the store and walked to the apartment, accompanied by the suspect in his mid-30s. They entered the apartment together, and around 11.30am, the man left the apartment alone.
CCTVs near the apartment captured the suspect's movements. Based on this clue and other leads, police have launched a hunt for the suspect. On a complaint from Vinay, a murder case was registered and further investigation was on, Dundigal station house officer P Sateesh said.
