Minister Seethakka meets Telangana governor on Mulugu bill
Hyderabad: Panchayat raj minister Seethakka on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to governor Jishnu Dev Varma, seeking his approval for a bill that was passed by the state legislative assembly in 2022. The bill pertains to converting Mulugu gram panchayat into a municipality.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the governor in Raj Bhavan, the minister said: "We sought his approval not only for this bill but also for other outstanding bills."
Seethakka said the governor is looking forward to adopting a village in Mulugu.
"We have given him a list of villages he can choose from," she said. Two years ago, the state assembly approved the Mulugu municipality bill and then governor Tamilisai Soundararajan forwarded it to the President for approval. However, the bill is yet to get the President's assent.
The BRS govt had incorporated the proposal for Mulugu's municipality status within the Telangana Municipal Act Amendment Bill. However, the issue was complicated by amendments to the GHMC Act, which was also included in the same bill, resulting in confusion.
