Hyderabad: For the third day in a row, the state experienced thunderstorms, with Jangaon, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Yadadri Bhuvanagri districts receiving heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (
IMD) has issued a yellow warning across the state for three days.
"Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at isolated places," said an IMD official.
The IMD warning spans several districts, including Mulugu, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
On Tuesday, the highest
rain was recorded in Devaruppula in Jangaon at 114 mm, followed by Kamareddygudem in Nalgonda (102.3 mm), Rock Town Colony in Saroornagar under GHMC (86 mm), Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy (84.3 mm) and Mandalpally in Bhadradri Kothagudem (83.3 mm).
Hyderabad too received moderate rain at various locations, but it brought traffic to a halt in many places. Areas near Mindspace, Madhapur, KBR Park, Begumpet, Rajendranagar, Quthbullapur, Mehdipatnam and parts of the Old City were among the hardest hit.
Within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, Rock Town Colony in Saroornagar topped the list with 86 mm, followed by Bandlaguda Community Hall (75 mm). Other areas also experienced heavy rainfall, with Karwan at 65.8 mm, Patigadda (58.5 mm), Gunfoundry (57.3 mm), Defence Colony in Hayathnagar (50.5 mm) and OU registrar office at Musheerabad (44.5 mm).
A few areas in Uppal, Nagole, LB Nagar, Ameerpet and Punjagutta saw waterlogging.
"This is a regular story during rain every year. With only five minutes of rainfall, the city stops in knee-deep water. We need a real solution," said a student stuck in traffic near Panjagutta.
