Jaipur: The medical education department has taken a big step towards promoting research and academics by dividing the existing medical colleges between Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Jaipur and the newly established Marwar Medical University (MMU) in Jodhpur. MMU is set to commence its operations from the 2025-26 academic session.
The department faced a challenging task in dividing the medical colleges between the two universities.
After careful consideration, they have released the list of medical colleges that will fall under the jurisdiction of MMU. The university will cover 23 districts across five divisions, including Jodhpur, Pali, Udaipur, Banswara, and Bikaner.
From the 2025-26 academic session, MMU will be responsible for ensuring smooth functioning of these districts.
Under MMU, there will be 18 medical colleges, six dental colleges, six physiotherapy colleges, and two paramedical colleges. The remaining medical, dental, nursing, and paramedical colleges will continue to operate under RUHS. This shift of 23 districts from RUHS to MMU is expected to ease the pressure on RUHS.
Dr. Dhananjai Agarwal, vice-chancellor of RUHS, welcomed the decision, saying, “It is a welcome decision which will help in ensuring quality education, research and administration of the medical colleges.”
