Paediatricians sign declaration to boost newborn screening
Jaipur: Paediatricians from various govt hospitals, including AIIMS Delhi, Bhopal, Jodhpur, and Jaipur's JK Lon Hospital, signed a declaration during a conference held in Jaipur on Tuesday to promote the universal implementation of newborn screening (NBS) across India in both public and private sectors. The declaration emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention of rare diseases and genetic disorders, which can significantly reduce associated morbidity and mortality.

Dr Priyanshu Mathur, associate professor at department of paediatrics, SMS Medical College, said, "The Indian Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (ISIEM) organised the national conference to discuss the identification, awareness, and treatment progress of rare and congenital metabolic diseases in the city. The conference focused on discussing the identification, awareness, and treatment progress of rare and congenital metabolic diseases. During the conference, a declaration was signed for promoting NBS." Govt doctors from Delhi, Kerala, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh and from other states who decided to promote and recommend NBS as a public health measure attended the event. The driver sustained multiple injuries. An FIR has been registered, and police are investigating with CCTV footage aiding their efforts.
