Kochi: District Collector NSK Umesh has issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant against job offer scams at the civil station, following the arrest of an individual caught attempting to defraud people.
According to the district administration, the suspect, who had been collecting money under the pretense of securing both permanent and temporary govt positions, was apprehended by security personnel and handed over to Thrikkakara police.
The individual, falsely claiming to be a retired military officer, was using a fake ID card.
Police confirmed they have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine if others are involved in such scams.
Based on our findings, these scammers are offering jobs in exchange for small amounts of money, typically between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, said a police officer. Many job seekers, eager for government employment, fall victim to these schemes. While the amounts may seem small, the total becomes significant when multiple people are duped, he added.
The officer also cautioned that similar frauds have been reported under the names of other institutions, including
Cochin Shipyard, and urged residents to stay alert.

In a public statement, the district administration reiterated that govt jobs can only be obtained through exams, interviews, and other procedures conducted by the PSC, Employment Exchange, and relevant govt departments. The collector advised the public to avoid falling prey to scams promising jobs in exchange for money and to remain cautious.
