Kochi: The Nava Kerala Mission organized a meeting at Thrikkakara municipality to address escalating waste management issues, as part of Clean Thrikkakara initiative. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including municipality councillors, health and police officials, resident associations and Haritha Karma Sena workers. The primary focus was finding solutions to indiscriminate littering within the municipality's jurisdiction.
The meeting, held at the municipality hall on Friday, was inaugurated by municipality chairperson Radhamani Pillai. Pillai said the discussion centred on littering in public spaces and the need to strengthen awareness initiatives while imposing penalties on offenders. "Police department has pledged support in identifying violators who dump waste illegally. Additionally, municipality plans to install 100 CCTV cameras to monitor and curb littering in public areas," said Pillai.
In the meeting, Nava Kerala Mission district officials gave presentations on scientific waste management methods. Meanwhile, municipality health standing committee chairman Unni Kakkanad said the local body has begun stringent action against violators, citing recent instances of imposing penalties of over Rs 1 lakh against offenders. "Raising public awareness, enforcing regulations and leveraging technology are the steps that we intend to take to tackle waste menace at Thrikkakara," said Unni.
