Lucknow: At least one passenger was injured on Monday evening after unidentified suspects pelted two express trains in Prayagraj and Mirzapur districts with stones, officials said.
The injured passenger identified as Sujit Kumar (22), was travelling with his family to his hometown Roopnagar of Barauni, Bihar, on the S3 coach of 12488 Seemanchal Express from Anand Vihar.
"Sujit was seated near the entry door of the coach. As soon as the train arrived near Yamuna Bridge (Naini) in Prayagraj, a young man hurled a stone towards the coach, which struck Sujit, causing him to bleed profusely. He suffered a laceration on his face, requiring three stitches on his lips and a broken tooth," said Bittu, cousin of the injured passenger. The train departed Prayagraj Junction at 5.17pm and reached Mirzapur at around 6.30 pm, where Sujit received first aid from railway authorities.
"At Mirzapur station, the railway medical staff merely applied an ointment on my lacerations. Upon arriving at Barauni, I had to bear the cost of sutures from my own pocket," Sujit told TOI.
Meanwhile, railway authorities received another distress call of a suspected stone-pelting incident in Mirzapur at around 7.21pm, when a stone hit the guard brake van of the New Delhi-bound Mahabodhi Express (12397). Fortunately, no one was injured.
CPRO North Central Railway Shashikant Tripathi said, "It's not clear if anyone actually pelted a stone at Mahabodhi Express, as RPF couldn't find any suspect around the spot where the incident was reported. However, in Prayagraj, a stone was hurled by an unidentified suspect ."
