Kanpur: Four members of a family, including a five-year-old child, died when their car rammed into a stationary gravel-laden dumper on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Auraiya district on Saturday.
Police said that the impact of the accident was so severe that the vehicle got trapped under the dumper and it took about half an hour for the rescuers to extract bodies from the mangled remains of the car.
Additional superintendent of police Alok Mishra said the family was travelling from Gautam Buddh Nagar to Kanpur when their car hit a stationary dumper near pillar number 137.6 in Harnagarpur village of Auraiya.
On getting information about the accident, expressway security in-charge Manohar Singh, Erwakatra police station in-charge Santprakash Patel, and other police personnel reached the spot.
The victims were identified as Piyush Yadav (33), his mother Neeta Yadav (55), sister-in-law Sanjana (31), and nephew Aarav (5). Police contacted Piyush's wife, Reena Yadav, who is a teacher in Gautam Buddh Nagar, and informed her about the tragedy.
"The victims were natives of Kanpur and were residing in Surajpur locality in Gautam Buddh Nagar. According to locals, the dumper had been parked there since morning. An investigation will be conducted to find out why it was parked on the expressway," the ASP said.
