Group set to block Buddha Dariya on Oct 1
Ludhiana: With their deadline to the govt to stop the flow of Buddha Dariya’s polluted water into the Satluj coming to an end on Sept 15, environment activists have said they will start blocking the stream’s black-coloured water from Oct 1.
The activists, who have formed a group named Kale Pani Da Morcha, said they will start their efforts on Ferozepur Road, as chief minister Bhagwant Mann did not take any sincere decision on the issue.

Kale Pani Da Morcha was launched on June 18. On the same day, it had asked the govt to stop the “poisoning of the Satluj by Sept 15”, which had been happening for long. “But the government did not take any step on this issue due to the collusion of the industry and the Punjab Pollution Control Board,” said the morcha.
Its members added even the dyeing industry did not even have permission to discharge its treated water into the Buddha Dariya for a decade, but this was kept hidden from the people and was recently exposed in an NGT case. After this, Central Pollution Control Board asked Punjab on Aug 12 to stop the discharge of water from dyeing units into Buddha Dariya within 15 days. tnn
