Ludhiana: A three-doctor board conducted an autopsy on a 11-year-old who was found dead, with his body hanging from a cloth tied to a rod, in the grain market near Jalandhar Bypass on Sunday night.
According to police, as per the autopsy, the boy died of hanging. The board, comprising Dr Neha Mittal, Dr Jaskaran and Dr Daman, has also sent the viscera of the boy for chemical examination, but the report is awaited.
The body of Abhishek Kumar was found hanging near a makeshift bakery at the grain market.
The family of Abhishek had alleged that it was a murder. His father, Ramanand, said another minor boy who is their relative told them that two men had taken Abhishek along on their bike. Those men slapped Abhishek, strangled him and then hanged him.
Assistant commissioner of police (north) Devinder Chaudhary said a board of doctors conducted the autopsy. “As per the report, it is a hanging case. The board has also sent the viscera for an examination, but the report is awaited,” he said.
ACP Chaudhary said the family was convinced with the report and agreed to the cremation.
Chaudhary said the police probe found that Abhishek and his friends had gone to a swimming pool in Haibowal in the afternoon. Abhishek came home late, following which his father scolded him. Angry with this, Abhishek ran from the house and was later found hanging.
CCTV cameras installed near the grain market also captured Abhishek running alone towards the market.
“On examining the crime scene, where the body was found, police found that Abhishek had climbed over the makeshift bakery shop and jumped from it with a noose, made from a piece of cloth, around his throat,” added the official.
When asked about the family’s earlier claims, the ACP said the boy had seen Abhishek’s suspended body and informed the family. “Reset of his claims could not be verified,” said the ACP.
By Tuesday afternoon, in the presence of police, the family cremated Abhishek’s body.
A medical professional at Ludhiana civil hospital, too said it seemed to be a case of suicide and not murder. “The boy was not sexually harassed and was not strangled. The board of doctors have sent the viscera for examination to confirm if he was given a poisonous substance or not. Until the viscera report comes, the decision over the cause of death would stay pending,” said the professional.
