Bijnor: Two sisters, Anchal (19) and Kajal (20), were killed when a goods train hit them as they were returning home after collecting wood from a forest on Friday evening in Gendajood village here.
Police said they were returning home from the forest at 5:54 pm when a freight train was passing on the up-line at Mewan Nawada Railway Halt and the Link Express was approaching on the down-line.
As soon as the freight train passed, the sisters began crossing the railway tracks but were struck by the Link Express. After getting information of the incident, station master Arif Kamal informed the Government Railway Police (GRP) and police.
Police then rushed to the spot, completed the necessary formalities, and handed over the bodies to the family without conducting post-mortem as per their request, said additional superintendent of police Dharam Singh Marchhal, adding that legal proceedings are ongoing.
The girls' mother had died some years ago due to illness and their father is a labourer by profession. Both the sisters used to help their father earn a livelihood.
