Bombay high court tells Maharashtra govt to pay Rs 25,000 extra for delay in giving compensation to sexual assault survivor
Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Tuesday said the state govt would have to pay Rs 25,000 additionally to the Sakinaka sexual assault survivor for the delay in paying a part of the Rs 3 lakh Manodhairya compensation.
On the petition by the mother of a three-year-old who was sexually assaulted by her 15-year-old neighbour, last week the high court was told the District Legal Services Authority had awarded her Rs 3 lakh compensation.

A part of it would be given to her guardian and the remaining put in a fixed deposit till she is 18 years old.
The mother's advocate told Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan that the amount was not received. Around noon, public prosecutor Hiten Venegavkar said the amount was paid. At the rising of the court, the mother's advocate confirmed it was not received.
The judges were miffed at the "incorrect statement". Venegavkar said it was made on instruction from DLSA. "There is some misunderstanding. Tomorrow morning 100% it will be paid…," he said.
The judges said the state was given "adequate time since morning". "Tomorrow be ready to pay an additional Rs 25,000," Justice Mohite-Dere said.
The judges will pass an order on Wednesday.
