Mumbra: A 50-year-old man from Diva was arrested by the Mumbra police on Sunday evening for allegedly murdering his wife over domestic issues.
Senior police inspector Anil Shinde of the Mumbra police station informed that the incident occurred on Sunday, shortly before 11:30am.
The accused, Pritesh Shirke, a resident of Diva, allegedly slit the throat of his 47-year-old wife, Draupati Shirke, resulting in her death.
Police said the couple had a history of frequent quarrels over domestic matters. It was during one such altercation that the accused allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp weapon, fatally wounding her. "They had multiple fights, especially over the man's drinking habit," said the officer.
On receiving an alert, local police promptly arrived at the scene. The victim's body was subsequently sent to a govt hospital for postmortem examination.
"The couple had been experiencing ongoing domestic disputes," stated Sr PI Shinde. "This tragic incident appears to be the culmination of their conflicts." The accused had fled the scene, but the team of Mumbra police caught him from Mandangad in Raigad district.
The accused was swiftly apprehended by the Mumbra police. An FIR has been registered under Section 103(1) of the BNS at the Mumbra police station.
