Mumbai: On Tuesday,
Mumbai University (MU) senate's graduate constituency polls saw a voter turnout of around 55%. Results will be announced on Friday, said MU registrar Prasad Karande.
Voting took place after Bombay high court stayed MU's decision to postpone the polls indefinitely citing a govt directive. A total of 13,406 graduates were registered as voters and 28 candidates were in the fray for the 10 seats that were vacant since Aug 2022, after the earlier senate's term ended.
In 2023, the polls were stalled after BJP MLA Ashish Shelar complained of bogus voters. In the last elections, all 10 seats were won by Yuva Sena candidates. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Students' Union president Siddharth Ingle, who filed a petition in Supreme Court on Monday seeking a stay on the HC directive, withdrew it on Tuesday as polls had commenced. tnn
