9 advocates’ names put forth for HC judgeship
New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium led by CJI D Y Chandrachud on Tuesday recommended names of nine advocates for appointment as judges of the Bombay high court, which at present has 66 judges against the sanctioned strength of 94.
The collegium comprising the CJI and Justices Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai recommended appointment of advocates Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, Advait Mahendra Sethna, Rajesh Sudhakar Datar, Sachin Shivajirao Deshmukh, Gautam Ashwin Ankhad, and Mahendra Madhavrao Nerlikar for appointment as judges of the high court, which has benches in Nagpur, Aurangaband and Panaji (Goa).

The collegium also recommended to the Centre to appoint Justice Narendar G of Andhra pradesh HC as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand HC consequent upon the retirement of incumbent CJ Justice Ritu Bahri, on Oct 10.
Of the nine, Nivedita P Mehta is the lone woman recommended for judgeship. Of the present strength of 66 judges, including the chief justice, there are only nine women judges. TNN
