Vodafone told to pay sr citizen Rs 60k for service deficiency
Mumbai: A district consumer commission recently held Vodafone Idea Ltd deficient in service for not informing a Ghatkopar senior citizen travelling to Kenya in advance about the applicable roaming charges in Zimbabwe where he made a short trip to see the Victoria waterfalls, arbitrarily letting him use the roaming services that left him with a bill of Rs 72,419, forcing him to clear the dues and disconnecting his services abruptly and not restoring it even in Kenya for which he had bought the package in the first place.

The commission ordered the company to pay T N Balasubramaniam compensation of Rs 60,000 for mental, financial harassment and agony.
Balasubramaniam had travelled to Kenya in May 2019 and had also spent two days in Zimbabwe. In his complaint submitted in 2019, Balasubramaniam submitted that he genuinely believed that the Rs 5,999 international roaming package also included Zimbabwe as had neither received any message to the contrary nor any cautionary message of the applicable for roaming whenever one enters a new country.
