Chennithala: Maha CM Post To Be Discussed After Polls
Nagpur: As Maharashtra heads toward the crucial assembly election, Congress' state in-charge Ramesh Chennithala reiterated that the top priority of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition is to unseat the BJP, downplaying talks about the chief minister's post. Addressing the media here on Monday, he said, "The aim is to remove the BJP from power, and any discussions on leadership will only happen after the elections.
1x1 polls
Speculations at this stage are unnecessary."
During the party's review meeting in Chandrapur in the afternoon, he said the people are disillusioned with this govt. "Farmer suicides, rising unemployment, and unchecked inflation have left the citizens feeling betrayed. The Mahayuti govt's days are numbered," he said.
Chennithala also expressed concern over the recent stampede-like situation at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) temple, calling it an "extremely unfortunate" incident. He demanded that the govt come forward with the truth about what led to the tragedy, where thousands of devotees visit every night.
With date for the assembly election yet to be declared, Chennithala raised questions about the Election Commission's "delay" in announcing the polls. "People are waiting for change, and the elections must be declared as soon as possible," he said, adding that the MVA is confident of receiving full support from the people.
Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole accused the BJP of bringing the state's economy "to its knees" through rampant corruption. Patole alleged that the current administration had abandoned the farmers, one of BJP's most significant voter bases. "The BJP, which once claimed to be the voice of farmers, has turned its back on them," he said.
Leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar echoed these sentiments, raising concerns about the impact of recent adverse weather on the state's agriculture. He accused the govt of corruption in crop insurance schemes. "Farmers affected by heavy rainfall are still waiting for compensation," he noted, alleging that the govt had mortgaged Maharashtra's future by allowing major industrial projects to shift to Gujarat.
