Ghaziabad: A 27-year-old businessman, on his way to Haridwar with friends, was allegedly shot dead by one of them in Nehru Nagar, Sihani Gate. After finding his body on Tuesday, police arrested two suspects, while the main suspect surrendered in court in connection with a 2021 Arms Act case.
Rajesh Kumar, DCP of Ghaziabad City, told TOI that around 6 am, they were informed about a body lying near Ghaziabad Public School in Nehru Nagar.
"A police team, along with a forensic team, reached the spot. The body was sent for an autopsy, and reports are awaited," said the DCP.
The deceased was identified as Rishabh Gupta, a resident of Panchwati Colony in Kotwali, through a tattoo on his hand.
According to police, Gupta was on a trip with the prime suspect Anuj, a resident of Maliwara, along with Mukul, a resident of Nandgram, and Pulkit, a resident of Panchwati.
Mukul, a cousin of the deceased, told police that Rishabh was driving Pulkit's Swift Dzire with Anuj and Mukul in the backseat.
"They had reached Paratapur, Meerut when Rishabh decided against going to Haridwar and wanted to return. The four of them consumed alcohol before heading to Anuj's house. Anuj went inside his house while the others waited in the car. Once Anuj returned, they went to Nehru Nagar," Mukul said.
He added that all four stepped out of the car to use the toilet when Anuj shot Rishabh point-blank with a country-made pistol.
"Rishabh died on the spot, and Pulkit and Mukul fled. Anuj later placed the pistol near the body and escaped," Mukul said.
Police suspect that when Anuj initially left for Haridwar with the deceased, he didn't have the pistol but likely picked it up from his house before returning.
"We are investigating if the
murder was motivated by a financial dispute,"
Sanjay Bansal, the father-in-law of the deceased, said that Rishabh had called his wife, Ayushi, around 10 pm on Monday to inform her about their Haridwar trip.
Based on Bansal's complaint, an FIR has been registered against Anuj, Mukul, and Pulkit under sections 103(2) (murder) and 3(5) (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the BNS at Sihani Gate police station.
