Patna: Amidst Opposition’s allegation regarding increase in the incidents of crime in the recent months, CM
Nitish Kumar on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence, to review the works of home department. He asserted that maintenance of law and order is top priority of his govt and no laxity in crime control would be tolerated. He also asked senior officials concerned to expedite the recruitment of police personnel.
“A total of 2,29,139 posts of police personnel have been sanctioned to increase the number of police force in the state.
Currently, a total of 1,06,436 police personnel are working in the state. Expedite recruitment of police personnel against all the vacant posts as police play a significant role in maintenance of law-and-order,” CM told the officials.
Nitish further asked the officials to increase frequency of night patrolling to put an effective check on movement of miscreants. He also asserted that stern actions would be taken against the police officers who would be found negligent in their duty.
Highlighting the decline in the incidents of the land dispute-related crimes, Nitish said, “Earlier over 60% of crimes were due to the land-related disputes. Now, it has decreased to 46.69%. It is a good sign.”
The CM said the state govt has initiated a special exercise of land survey and settlement across the state. “The govt wants that the work of land survey and settlement is completed earlier so that the incidents of land-related crimes could be minimised,” Nitish said.
Nitish further said that his govt made a provision of 35% quota for women in the police force in 2013. “Presently, more than 30,000 women are employed in the state police, highest in any state of India. With the increase in the number of women cops, female complainants are feeling comfortable in explaining their grievances at the police stations,” the CM said.
Earlier, principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar Choudhary informed the CM about the works being executed by the home department.
