PATNA: Weathermen on Tuesday predicted
rain with
thunderstorm at a few places from Wednesday, even as most parts of Bihar, including capital Patna, has been witnessing above-normal temperatures for the last few days.
Patna Meteorological Centre issued yellow alert for heavy rainfall likely at one or two places over Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Kishanganj, West Champaran, Araria, Supaul and Katihar districts, besides foothills of north Bihar between September 25 and 27.
Meanwhile, the hot weather conditions for the last few days has been attributed to insufficient rainfall during the period despite September being a monsoon month, said Patna Meteorological Centre.
“The monsoon activities in the state have not been up to the mark for the past few days, and even if witnessed over a few places, it was only in limited quantity. Thus no rainfall activities and a clear sky resulting in greater insolation (the amount of light from the sun that reaches the earth) have resulted in rising temperature,” said a weather bulletin, adding absence of cloud on account of inadequate moisture entering into the region from Bay of Bengal side is facilitating the upward trend of the mercury.
The highest maximum temperature of 39.7° Celsius in the state was recorded at Pupari in Sitamarhi district on Tuesday, while the lowest miniumum was observed at 22.3°C in Banka. Patna’s maximum temperature was at 35.5°C and the lowest was recorded at 27.4°C on Tuesday.
