DALTONGANJ: Defence minister
Rajnath Singh, who was in Jharkhand on Saturday to kickstart
BJP's Parivartan Yatra ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, had to travel to Varanasi by road after his helicopter could not be refuelled.
Rajnath addressed a rally at Itkhori in Chatra district and then air-dashed to Sri Bansidhar Nagar in Garhwa for another public meeting.
However, his helicopter ran short of fuel, and the refueling could not be done in Garhwa.
Rajnath, who was accompanied by Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, waited for some time and then decided to proceed by road.
The distance between Sri Bansidhar Nagar and Varanasi is a little over 183 km.
BJP's state general secretary Manoj Kumar Singh told TOI, said, "As the defence minister needed to reach Jammu by night, he and Shivraj decided to leave for Varanasi by car."
Explaining why the refuelling could not take place, he said: "A fuel tanker had started from Ranchi for Sri Bansidhar Nagar, but it met with an accident en route and the defence minister was in no mood to wait."
He said the helicopter that had brought Rajnath from Ranchi to Sri Bansidhar Nagar and Itkhori did not belong to the defence ministry, but was hired by BJP.
