Ranchi: In a move towards comprehensive education, CBSE schools in Ranchi are incorporating skill development activities and practical classes that are in line with industry needs.
These activities are conducted in composite labs designed to nurture creativity and entrepreneurial skills through various pursuits such as cooking, art, crafts, painting, and drawing.
The labs are part of a dedicated period aimed at enhancing practical skills, as mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP).
At Kairali School, Saturdays are reserved for skill development activities, transforming classrooms into labs where students participate in hands-on learning experiences. Principal Rajesh Pillai said, "By integrating these activities into the curriculum, students get equipped with essential life skills, preparing them for a rapidly changing world."
Under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE), the implementation of these labs is now compulsory in all schools.
DAV Public School in Hehal has introduced ‘labs on wheels’, which are mobile facilities equipped with necessary apparatus to move from class to class, engaging students from Classes VI to VIII in skill-based activities. Adarsh Jaiswal, a Class VIII student of the school, said, "We are always enthusiastic about learning in the lab. We experiment and gain insights into various aspects of the world. It makes it easier for us to grasp concepts effectively."
Tender Heart School has also integrated a general lab for students from pre-nursery to Class XII to participate in skill development activities each week. Similarly, Firayalal Public School has a lab focused on skill enhancement, in addition to their science lab.
