THANE: People in Badlapur are celebrating the
encounter of Akshay Shinde on Tuesday, who was accused of sexually abusing two nursery school children last month.
Badlapur citizens expressed joy over the encounter and welcomed the accused's demise.
At Badlapur railway station, where passengers had halted a train for eight hours last month in
protest of the incident, sweets were distributed this morning.
Outside the railway station, some parents, including
Shiv Sena workers, celebrated by holding placards in support of chief minister
Eknath Shinde and the Thane police.
Locals celebrated at various intersections of the city, bursting crackers and dancing.
Priyanka Damle, a social worker, also celebrated the encounter with women from the city by distributing sweets. Damle said, "After this incident, any accused will be afraid of committing such a heinous act."
At some places, Shiv Sena and
BJP workers celebrated in support of the police's actions in the case. However, the opposition party, as well as the accused Akshay Shinde's family, claimed it was a fake encounter and demanded an investigation.
