LUCKNOW: At least one passenger was injured on Monday evening after stones were allegedly hurled by unidentified suspects on two express trains in Prayagraj and Mirzapur districts.
The injured passenger was identified as Sujit Kumar (22), who was travelling with his family to his hometown Roopnagar of Barauni, Bihar, in the S3 coach of 12488 Seemanchal Express from Anand Vihar.
Sujit suffered a laceration on his face, requiring three stitches on his lips and a fractured tooth.
"Since only three berths were confirmed out of eight, Sujit was seated near the entry door of the coach. As soon as the train arrived near Yamuna Bridge (Naini) in Prayagraj, a young lad hurled a stone towards the coach, which struck Sujit, causing him to bleed profusely," said Bittu, cousin of the injured passenger.
The train departed Prayagraj Junction at 5:17 pm and reached Mirzapur at around 6:30 pm, where Sujit received first aid from railway authorities. "For immediate assistance, I had dialled the 139 emergency number of railways, and they informed me that a medical team would be available at Mirzapur. It took one hour to reach Mirzapur while Sujit continued to endure acute agony," added Bittu.
An e-rickshaw driver in Noida, Sujit is heading home for his uncle tehrvi (13th day after the death). Prayagraj RPF has registered an FIR in the matter under section 153 and 147 of the railway act.
"At Mirzapur station, the railway medical staff merely applied an ointment on my lacerations. Upon arriving at Barauni, I had to bear the cost of sutures from my own pocket. The excruciating pain has rendered me unable to consume solid food, leaving me reliant on milk as my sole source of sustenance. As a passenger with a legitimate ticket, the railway authorities have an obligation to provide compensation or, at the very least, reimbursement for the medical expenses I have incurred. The injuries I sustained can be attributed to the inadequate safety precautions implemented by the railway," Sujit Kumar conveyed to TOI.
Meanwhile, railway authorities received another distress call of a suspected stone-pelting incident in Mirzapur at around 7:21 pm, when a stone hit the guard brake van of the New Delhi-bound Mahabodhi Express (12397). The incident occurred when the train was entering Mirzapur railway station yard. Fortunately, no one was injured. The RPF has lodged an FIR under section 153 and 147 of the railway act.
CPRO North Central Railway Shashikant Tripathi said, "It's not clear if anyone actually pelted a stone at Mahabodhi Express, as RPF couldn't find any suspect around the spot where the incident was reported. However, in Prayagraj, a stone was indeed hurled by an unidentified suspect as per the victim's statement. RPF is searching for the suspect."
