T'puram: The District Level Banking Review Committee (DLRC) meeting has called for the successful completion of the campaign led by banks to include all families in the district under the social security scheme.
This programme, overseen by the State Level Bankers' Committee, the
Reserve Bank of India, and lead banks, aims to include all families in schemes that provide insurance amounts up to two lakh rupees for accidental and natural deaths.
The meeting noted that three blocks in the district have already achieved this target.
The meeting, held under the leadership of the lead bank, Indian Overseas Bank, was inaugurated by MLA I B Satheesh. He suggested that banks should organize awareness programmes to educate the public about digital fraud in banking transactions. He also emphasized the need to encourage Kudumbashree self-help groups to use their loans more productively. Local self-governing institutions should make maximum use of the free training courses conducted by the rural self-employment training centre under the lead bank's guidance, he added.
Deputy collector T K Vineeth presided over the meeting. He requested banks to review the shortfall in educational loan distribution in the district and to offer maximum concessions when settling loan arrears. IOB deputy general manager G V Dayal Prasad welcomed the attendees. Reserve Bank lead district officer Mini Balakrishnan and NABARD district manager Surabhi S Kurup reviewed the banks' activities.
Banks have provided priority loans amounting to Rs 10,700 crore in the district until June 30, 2024. In the first quarter of the financial year, banks achieved 35% of their target. Loans amounting to Rs 5,719 crore were distributed in the agricultural sector and Rs 4,728 crore in the MSME sector.
