T'puram: The fine arts department of the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) is celebrating the International Week of the Deaf with a weeklong series of events.
The festivities began on Monday with a dance performance and a workshop by the Urban Jazz Dance Company. On Tuesday, the campus witnessed the ‘ISL Awareness in Action' initiative, where students and staff taught essential Indian Sign Language (ISL) signs across departments, promoting inclusivity and understanding.
A walkathon from Kanakakunnu to Kowdiar is scheduled for Wednesday, in collaboration with the Lions Club. On Thursday, there will be interactive ISL competitions and games to enhance sign language skills and encourage teamwork. The highlight of the week is ‘Silent Voices: Connecting through Signs', which will be held on Friday, where all communication will be conducted exclusively in ISL. Additionally, final-year bachelor of fine arts students will host their degree show, ‘Echoing Eleven', at Chithrasala Art Gallery from Tuesday to Sunday. TNN
