Trichy: Trichy rural police launched an investigation into the burglary of 20.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments in three separate incidents in Jambunathapuram and Thiruverumbur on Sunday.
In the first incident, R Kulanthai Theresa, 75, a resident of Alagapatty Road in Musiri, returned home with her family after attending a relative’s funeral on Sunday night.
They discovered that their door had been broken into, and eight sovereigns of gold ornaments were stolen. The Jambunathapuram police registered a case based on Kulanthai Theresa’s complaint and began an investigation.
In the Thiruverumbur area, two additional cases of house break-ins were reported on Sunday, prompting further investigations.
S Rajamani, 82, from Veethivadangam in Kattur, filed a complaint with the Thiruverumbur police, stating that she had locked her house and gone to Tirupati temple on August 7. When she returned on Sunday morning, she found the front door broken and seven sovereigns of gold ornaments missing from the bureau.
Similarly, S Saroja, 60, from Vasantham Nagar in Anna Nagar, Thiruverumbur, reported to the police that her husband and son had gone to Rameshwaram on August 9. She returned home that evening to find the front door broken and 5.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments stolen from the bureau.
