VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched a new web portal for booking of free sand. He directed officials to update the data in real time to make it easy for people to book sand from anywhere at any time.
He also asked them to remove time restrictions for book of sand and ensure that the portal works 24/7. He also asked officials to put a grievance redressal mechanism in place to address the problems and provide immediate solutions to any issues.
"People from nearby villages should be allowed to take sand from small streams and rivers, and regulations should be made so they can take sand for personal use without any fees. Strengthen the vigilance system and take all measures to prevent illegal transportation and mining of sand," he told officials.
The new sand portal will contain details such as supply points, transportation charges, and available sand for each day district-wise. "The portal will help control the high prices being charged by truck owners and middlemen. A toll-free number (1800-599-4599) and email (
[email protected]) have been given to raise complaints," said excise and mines minister Kollu Ravindra.
He further said that they are prioritising third-party inspections related to sand supply. "The new portal will ensure constant surveillance at various stages, making it impossible for anyone, from officials to transporters, to commit any wrongdoings. District-level committees led by collectors will control local systems," he said.
