Shah Rukh Khan knew that he required a trademark style to become a star, says Jaaved Jaaferi: ‘Salman, Aamir are also stars but…’

Shah Rukh Khan has been a movie star for more than 30 years, and the actor knew how to become famous long before he did. In a recent interview, actor Jaaved Jaaferi talked about his experience working with the actor on a 1995 movie and said that, even in those early days before SRK became a household name, he knew exactly what it took to become a star. Jaaved praised SRK as an intelligent and wise man and added that they became quite friendly when they were working on the 1995 movie ‘Oh Darling Yeh Hai India’.
During a conversation with MensXP, when asked why stars from earlier generations seemed to have a certain aura about them whereas stars from today don't stick out in a crowd. Recalling an anecdote, Jaaved said, “I did this film with Shah Rukh Khan called Oh Darling Yeh Hai India. We got pretty close and we were shooting quite a lot. It was a pretty intensive shoot. He is a very intelligent guy. Of course, he is educated but he is also an intelligent guy. Really wise. He knew where he wanted to be. And he made a point, which I knew, but he just underlined it.”
Then, Jaaved Jaaferi recalled how Shah Rukh Khan had told him the journey was like being a star. “He said you know, to be a star, you need a certain style. A thing that is your own. He got that. And if you notice he stands out because he has got his own style. People may make fun of it but whatever…,” he shared.
Jaaved went on to prove his point by imitating the style of Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, and Shatrughan Sinha. He claimed that it just takes a moment for their mimicry to be clearly identifiable as their own. Then, imitating Shah Rukh, he continued by saying, “He is the only one in this generation who is identified with a style. Other actors don’t have that.”
Jaaved said that Shah Rukh grasped this aspect of being a star and this is mainly why he stands out. He then added, “Salman is also a huge star. Aamir is a star but the style content I am talking about, that’s his style. He has got a trademark on it.”
On the work front, Jaaved Jaaferi is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming web series ‘Taaza Khabar season 2’. It will be released on an OTT platform on September 27, 2024.
