Chaos broke out at a government event in
Bihar's Saharsa when a crowd looted a biofloc fish tank set up by the fisheries department barely after Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar left the venue. The crowd looted fish worth INR 45,000.
The Chief Minister had, earlier in the day, inaugurated the Maa Vishahari Temple and toured a government exhibition in Amarapur, where different departments showcased their projects.
Among these was the biofloc fish farming tank, wherein Nitish Kumar had 'added' some ceremonial fish during the visit.
Immediately after he left, most of the people who grabbed the fish confessed to the media present that they did not attend the inauguration for Nitish Kumar but for the 'fish'. As per a viral video on social media, hundreds of youth and children jumped into the tank, grabbed the fish with bare hands for the 'after party'. Some people were also seen 'swimming' in the tank! It indeed seemed like a field day for fish loving foodies.
Subodh Kumar, District Fisheries Officer said that along with the loss incurred due to plunder, the crowd also inflicted severe damage to the biofloc setup developed for fish farming. The hooliganism went up to the extent of completely disrupting the fish festival and causing losses to the fisheries department while bringing embarrassment to the organisers of the event.
