NEW DELHI: The
BCCI Apex Council will meet on Wednesday to discuss various administrative issues. The meeting, however, will not address the appointment of a new secretary to succeed
Jay Shah.
The BCCI is set to address several key topics in its upcoming meeting, with a focus on the sponsorship issue with Byju's and the establishment of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) as per PTI.
Byju's, an edtech company, ended its jersey sponsorship with the BCCI in March last year after initially signing a three-year deal in 2019. This deal was extended by one year, reportedly worth USD 55 million. Payments were made up to September 2022, but issues arose concerning unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023.
In addition to the sponsorship matter, the Council will discuss the opening of a state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Currently, the NCA operates from the premises of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where it has been based for over two decades.
The new academy is expected to further enhance the training and development of cricket talent in the country.
Approval for starting renovation work on the exteriors of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai is also on the agenda. Additionally, the North East development project will be reviewed.
Jay Shah was unanimously chosen as the next ICC Chairman, necessitating the search for a new BCCI Secretary. Despite his election, Shah will not step down from his current role during the upcoming AGM. He is expected to begin his duties as ICC Chairman on December 1.
This session marks the last gathering of the Apex Council before the Board's 93rd Annual General Meeting, which will take place in Bengaluru in five days.
