Nikki Garcia, 40, has officially filed for divorce from Artem Chigvintsev, 42, after two years of marriage. The filing took place on Wednesday, September 11, in Napa Valley, California, according to records obtained by PEOPLE. The divorce filing comes just weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested on August 29 for corporal injury to a spouse.
He was briefly detained in the Napa County Jail with a $25,000 bail and released within an hour.
While Garcia's name was not listed in the arrest documents, TMZ reported she was involved, citing a 911 call where it was alleged she had thrown shoes at Chigvintsev during an argument.
Following the incident, a representative for Garcia asked for privacy, stating, "This is a private matter and Nikki asks for privacy for her and her family at this time." Speculation about their split intensified when Garcia was seen without her wedding ring during a public appearance on September 2 at Netflix's Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, a live event she co-hosted. Just days before the arrest, the couple had celebrated their second wedding anniversary, sharing heartfelt posts on Instagram.
Chigvintsev posted a tribute to Garcia, writing, "Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life without you. You are my everything
." Garcia, in her own post, reflected on their love story, sharing lyrics from Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and reminiscing about the moment she realized she was falling in love with Chigvintsev. Despite these public displays of affection, their relationship appears to have come to an end as Garcia moves forward with the divorce proceedings.
