Gandhinagar: The annual number of marriage registrations has more than doubled over the past decade, with a minor drop witnessed during the Covid-19 pandemic, official data has revealed. While 1,58,605 marriages were registered in the state in 2014, the number increased to 3,40,357 in the year 2023.
According to official data, marriage registrations dropped by around 11% in 2020 compared to the previous year.
While 2,09,761 marriages were registered in the year 2019, the number dropped to 1,86,790 in the year 2020.
However, there was a 36.5% rise in the number of marriages registered in the year 2021 compared to the previous year. From 1,86,790 registrations in 2020, the number in 2021 rose by 68,189 to 2,54,979, said official figures.
The state health and family welfare department maintains annual records of marriage registrations in the state.
