Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: As many as 38 lakh consumers in the state owe Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (
MSEDCL) Rs 5,048 crore in dues.
The power distribution company has permanently disconnected the supply to consumers.
The state power utility has appealed to concerned consumers to take advantage of its amnesty scheme available until November 30 to restore connection.
MSEDCL authorities said 38 lakh defaulter consumers include those having residential, commercial, and industrial power connections. "As a part of the amnesty scheme, the state power utility will waive off interest on dues and delayed payment charges worth Rs 1,788 crore. All affected consumers are requested to take benefit of the amnesty scheme," MSEDCL chairman and managing director Lokesh Chandra said.
The amnesty scheme, which has been launched as per instructions from deputy chief minister and energy minister Devendra Fadnavis has excluded defaulter consumers in agriculture category and public water supply schemes.
Elaborating on the salient features of the amnesty scheme named ‘Abhay Yojana', MSEDCL authorities said, "Defaulter consumers can make only 30% of payable dues initially and the balance amount in six monthly instalments. The MSEDCL will offer a new connection or reconnection immediately after making full or 30% payment."
Also, on making 100% payment in one go, additional concessions of 5% and 10% will be provided to high-tension and low-tension category consumers, respectively.
The state power utility has requested target consumers to take benefit of the scheme by visiting www.mahadiscom.in/wss/wss or Mahavitaran Mobile application. Consumers can also get more information about the scheme through toll-free numbers 1912 or 18002333435 or 18002123435.
