Chandigarh: As Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, has recently received a grant of Rs 143 crore from the administration, the authority has finally started making payments to contractors, which was pending for the past many months. “Out of Rs 143 crore, a significant amount has been kept secure for salaries of employees, and the remaining amount is being released to the contractors.
The priority list of the expenditure has been prepared, and the entire financial distribution of the amount is being released accordingly,” sources said. Though some employees are demanding arrears, the authority is currently strictly committed to release the amount for only committed liabilities.
“Since the paucity of the finances are affecting developmental works, no new routine works are being started on the ground. Hundreds of approved works of both General House and Finance and Contract Committee have been kept aside,” said a source.
