HC summons DGP to explain about Asr suicide
Chandigarh: Taking cognisance of the incident in which a person had snatched the pistol from an ASI and shot himself to commit suicide outside the Golden Temple here on Sunday, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday ordered the Punjab DGP to appear before it on Wednesday to explain the “lapse in security”.
While directing the DGP to appear through video-conferencing, the HC termed the incident as a “definite lapse of security”.

The ASI was posted as personal security officer (PSO) of one of the judges of the high court.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal passed these orders while taking suo motu cognisance of media reports about the incident.
“There is definitely a lapse of security and therefore, the director general of police, Punjab, is directed to be present in court through video conferencing tomorrow at 10 am,” the bench observed.
The matter would now come up for hearing on Wednesday.
