Madurai: Taking suo motu cognizance of news reports about the portion of a roof which collapsed in a building at the Govt Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai,
Madras high court on Tuesday sought a response from the dean of the GRH on the buildings.
A division bench of justice R Subramanian and justice Sunder Mohan observed that a portion of the building housing the GRH is in a dilapidated state and the ceiling in a portion of the building had come off.
The judges directed the registry to issue notice to the health secretary, director of medical services, and dean of the GRH, informing them that the court had taken suo motu cognizance of the reports and had sought an explanation from them as to the action taken by them either to renovate or reconstruct the buildings which are in a dilapidated condition.
The judges also directed the dean to file a report in consultation with the PWD on the actual area of buildings which are in a dilapidated condition.
